My niece wants me to teach her how to crochet, so I had to find a project that was easy but still fun to do. My first crochet project was wash cloths but I cant imagine that would be all that exciting for a teenage girl. This coin purse is easier than it looks. All you do is crochet a flat round in a specific color order and then fold in half. It’s a very quick project and would make a great gift or first pattern to follow!
Materials Needed For Project:
Size G crochet hook
#4 weight yarn I used Sugar ‘n Cream cotton yarn. The colors I used are soft violet, hot blue, hot green, yellow, hot orange, and rose pink.
9” YKK zipper I used a princess pink (color # 515)
Needle and thread
DC = Double Crochet
Ch = Chain
Slst = Slip Stitch
To start Ch 4 and join with Slst with purple yarn
Round 1: With purple yarn Ch 3 (This will count as first DC every time.) Then DC 11 more times and join with Slst. (You should have 12 stitches total)
Round 2: Join the blue yarn Ch 3, DC in same space, then continue to 2DC between every stitch and join with a Slst. (You should have 24 stitches total.)
*When looking at the circle the chains look like spokes on a wheel you insert crochet hook between each spoke (space) when working a round.
Round 3: Join green yarn Ch 3 then DC in same space, then DC in next space. Repeat pattern 2DC,DC all the way around circle. Join end with Slst. (You should have 36 stitches total.)
Round 4: Join yellow yarn Ch 3 then DC in same space, then DC in next two spaces. Repeat pattern 2DC,DC,DC all around circle. Join end with Slst. (You should have 48 stitches total.)
Round 5: Join orange Ch 3 the DC in same space and DC in next three spaces. Repeat pattern 2DC,DC,DC,DC all around circle. Join ends with Slst. (You should have 60 stitches total.)
Round 6: Join pink Ch 3 then DC in same space and DC in next four spaces. Repeat pattern 2DC,DC,DC,DC,DC all around circle join end with Slst. Weave in loose ends.
Next fold your flat circle like a taco and pin your zipper in place and hand stitch it on. Then flip and repeat on other side.
